River Rocks 2 by Mavis Penney
Monthly Painting Project: Big Brush Painting
© Mavis Penney 2002, 12 x 18 inches, acrylic on paper

From the Artist: ""I like how many ways I was able to use the 2-inch brush in this painting. I used acrylics on blue construction paper. The paint blotted quickly into the surface of the paper, and forced me to work fast.Starting off, I found myself using the brush as if I were applying paint to a wall. I tried using the brush as a stamping tool, which gave a mechanical patterned effect, and I tried shaping the brushstrokes by moving my arm and wrist in different ways. After some practice, I was able to create marks that could represent particular objects."
