Shade by Elaine Hurford
Monthly Painting Project: Monochrome Painting
© Elaine Hurford, 8 x 12", Bistre and graphite on paper

From the Artist: "This picture was done in graphite and bistre - perhaps it can slip into the "monochrome" category as a contrast to the blue pictures. It was painted about a year after the rose."

From the Painting Guide: This has an almost mythic, fantastical feel to it; it's a typical trail through the woods which could lead to either great adventure or dire consequence. The branches emphasise the spiralling effect on the tunnelled path through the trees and the two colours give a feel of autumn leading into winter, lack of foliage.

Things to consider:
Edges: There's too solid a line along the left edge of the path; the tree roots should blend into the path more as in the very front of the picture.
