From the Artist: "I started painting a little over a year ago due to declining health, to lift my spirit. I basically paint everything that is dear to my heart, including countries I lived in and visited. I am now interested in learning the art of painting, so I would love to hear what you think."

From the Painting Guide: If this tropical-looking paradise island is somewhere you've visited, I'm jealous! I thought about straightening the horizon in the photo of this painting, but to do so would have meant cutting off part of the ship on the left, so I've left it leaning to the right. If you'd intended it to convey the curvature of the earth, I think it would need to be a much wider painting, as you really only get the feeling of the earth starting to curve when you see a really wide expanse of ocean and see it beginning to curve on both 'edges'.

Concerning the reflections – you've got the sails of the boats reflecting, but not the hulls, nor any of the clouds in the sky. I'm not sure if the pink on the clouds is just on the poor photo; if it is on the painting, when I'd expect the white sails to have a touch of it too.

Watch where you put the horizon line – in this instance, it cuts the painting almost in half. Moving it either up or down would, in terms of composition 'rules' make for a stronger painting. Cover the top third of the painting with a piece of paper and you'll see how your eye no longer struggles to decide whether to look at the top or bottom half of the painting, but is immediately drawn into the boats and island, and then up into the sky.
