From Death to Eternity by Sherry Walters

© Sherry Walters 2003, 3 ft x 4 ft, oil.

From the Artist: "I was moved to paint this in honor of and for the 'Glory of Him', I presented it to my church. Whatever talent I have, it is because of the one who gave it to me. It seems to have 'moved' others who gaze up on it. I like bold colors. As you look at the left of the painting, you see the lightening and darkness, it represents the anger of God at what was done to his son. On the right side of the skies are a little cheerer with the promise of Heaven in the upper right corner."

From the Painting Guide: This was clearly done with passion, and at this scale some of the detail can't really be seen, such as the houses in heaven on the top right. My thoughts on this painting are that the darkness you talk about on the left isn't particularly dark – even though it is darker than the right-hand side, it's still quite light and colourful. There's also a lot of greenery given where the crucifixion took place, ie on a barren hill in what is now Israel. The torso seems very and the limbs very short in comparison; perhaps the loin cloth is hanging a bit low.
