Sunrise After Cold War: Ice And Flame by Sergey Muravyev
Critique Corner
© Sergey Muravyev 2002, 20 x 30", mixed media

From the Artist: "This is a small abstract work which I plan to also do in a large size, maybe on a wall. It's entitled Sunrise After Cold War: Ice And Flame. I feel there is hope that the ice of mutual prejudices from the Cold War will thaw from the heat of friendship between peoples of the different countries, and that it is in fact already happening. Here I have tried to show this process by means of the abstract art. What think you about it? If something is wrong I would like to get advice."

From the Painting Guide: When it comes to an abstract painting, I find I am either immediately drawn to it or not. It's a strongly instictive reaction. I found that this painting didn't hold my attention once my eyes had taken in the intense colours, but when I read the artist's statement, this added an intriguing level of meaning.
