From the Painting Guide: To me it looks more like Paris than New York, because I associate Paris with cafe cultures and the vibrant colours and trees are not reminiscent of the New York I've seen ... but then I've only been there in winter. It's certainly a view of New York which would encourage people to visit.
Things to consider:
Perspective: The architecture is well rendered and just look at the lovely sense of the building being behind the foliage of the tree. It may be the way the pavement was laid, but it seems strange that the lines of the paving blocks don't seem to follow the curvature of the sidewalk.
Level of detail: The detail on people doesn't match the detail on the houses; it may have been the artist's intention to have anonymous figures. The two figures in the distance down the road have a great sense of movement and animation to them, and a sense of dialogue it looks as if they're chatting to each other. The people at tables seem to be looking at man walking past rather than talking to each other.
