From the Painting Guide: The individual objects on this painting are really nice but the composition is overwhelmed by the "underlying plot" or symbolism. The 'Star People' are standing back to back, they're having nothing to do with each other. The moon, the fundamental source of illumination in the night sky, isn't casting the shadows, so these people have separated themselves from the environment. The Star People themselves have a suggestion of features whereas the shadows are featureless; which one shows their true face? Return to Critique Corner
