From the Artist: "The Valley of Nevermore originally was a poem/song that I wrote in 1974. It is about a young man's journey looking for happiness. On his travels he goes through many lands. The Valley of Nevermore painting is just one of the places he visits. Of course the poem/song is about my search for inner peace. The Valley of Nevermore has given me many surreal ideas for my paintings. In this painting you see the moon and the 'Star People' standing on the sun. As in the poem and in real life I will continue my search for inner peace. I hope you have found it for yourself."

From the Painting Guide: The individual objects on this painting are really nice but the composition is overwhelmed by the "underlying plot" or symbolism. The 'Star People' are standing back to back, they're having nothing to do with each other. The moon, the fundamental source of illumination in the night sky, isn't casting the shadows, so these people have separated themselves from the environment. The Star People themselves have a suggestion of features whereas the shadows are featureless; which one shows their true face?
