From the Painting Guide: I think this is a very evocative portrait of a horse; I just don't like the fact that it ends so sharply on the left-hand side. I want it to fade like it does on the righthand side of the body. The focus is very much on the face, with only a feeling of body; if there'd been more it would distract. But at the same time you've managed to give a feeling of the height of the animal through your portrayal of its neck and by using such a strong portrait canvas. The composition gives the horse space to look into.
