© Bob Abrahams 2003, 5 x 7", oil on board

From the Artist: "This scene is a location near to where I live. I know it very well because I paint on location nearly every week. However this particular painting is a miniature was derived from one of my photographs. If I consider it has the potential to make a successful painting I will probably expend more time to complete a larger version, say 12"x18"."

From the Painting Guide: Overall this painting has a lovely sense of time of day, and I presume that if you're familiar with the city skyline you'd recognise it from the buildings.

The presence of ripples in the bottom right is inconsistent with the rest of the water, which is very placid. I'd be tempted to use the back of a brush to create some texture (sgraffito). The area behind the pier is quite flat. There's such as intensity to the fiery sky and the stark skyline of the city. But if you look at the reflection, where is the reflection of the city? And of the small dark object in the centre of the painting? Why is the reflection of the fiery sky over to the left of where the fiery sky is? A reflection would be directly below the thing that's being reflected, as with the pier posts.
