From the Painting Guide: This painting has a lovely sense of place and of sunshine. My favourite part is the beautifully portrayed flowering plant (a bouganvillea?) growing up the side of the white building.
Things to consider:
Composition: There's a lovely flow through this painting, with the curvature of the water and sand reflected in the wall and buildings, drawing your eye towards the umbrellas and onto the mountains and town in the background. The two trees behind the umbrellas make that part of the painting a bit busy. Adding a bit of highlighting to the umbrella poles would distinguish them more, making it easier to see what's going on. Or use artist's prerogative and leave the trees out. Just because something is there in real life, doesn't mean it has to be in the painting.
Figures: The flowers on the building give a sense of romance that isn't mirrored in the posture of the couple on the beach, who don't look relaxed at all. The other, standing figure is too static, it should have some implied motion as if they were walking away.
Colour: There should be some of the beach's yellow reflected in the white building (as the purple of the flowers is reflected in the water). The water looks a bit green; this may be how it really is, but with the white and brown edge to it where it meets the sand, the colour implies water that's stagnant, not waves lapping at the beach.
