Choosing Between Cotton and Linen Canvas

A helpful tip to add to your painting knowledge.

By , About.com Guide

If you are worried about the longevity of your paintings or if you paint heavy impasto you should use a medium to heavy linen. The reason for this is that cotton has a very short, weak fiber and therefore when woven into thread and then into canvas it is not as strong as linen which has a longer, stronger fiber and holds together much better over an extended period of time.
