Guide Review - Review: Art Styles, Schools, and Movements
If you've ever got lost in the multitude of art styles, schools, and movements of the 20th century, read this book which demystifies them all. The main part of it explains the 100 major developments in art, architecture, and design, in as chronological an order as possible.
Each entry starts with a quote from an artist in that school and ends with a list of the key collections in which to see that type of art and key books on it. The text outlines the start and development of the style, its key practitioners, features, and when (if) it ended. At least one illustration of a piece of art of each style is provided. A glossary explains a further 200 styles.
It's a fascinating book for a painter to dip into, not only as a source of ideas, and information, but also to draw inspiration from the vast array of art that was created in the last century.
