Practicing Color Mixing

Add to your color mixing knowledge

By Marion Boddy-Evans, About.com

I tear pieces of color out of magazines, then mix up colors until I've matched these. When I've got a match, I make a note on a piece of paper of what colors I mixed, paint little swatches of these, and stick the bit of magazine down too; I store these in a file. This has helped me know what colors to mix to get the colors I see in a subject.
Tip from: Beverley Sheers.

When you mix your colors, paint a swatch of each color you mix in a sketchbook. Under the swatch write which pigments you used to get that mix. I can fill up a page with just one painting. If you do this over a period of time, you will have created your own personal color-mixing reference book and reinforce what you're learning about color.
