Underpaint Oils with Acrylics

A helpful acrylic painting tip submitted by a fellow artist.

By Marion Boddy-Evans, About.com

When I start a new painting, I first paint it with acrylics, which as we all know dries quickly. Then I fill it out using oil paints, particularly for light and shadow, and glazing. I let it dry for about three to five months before varnishing.
