I came across a list titled "Obscure Color Words". Okay, so some I know because of paints I use, such as cerulean and viridian, but I admit to being astounded by others regarded as obscure. Aubergine? Mauve? Russet? Saffron? Really?
It makes me think I should write more color names 101s and some color quizzes!

How about the word “quinacridone”? It may not be obscure, but it’s a toungue-twister.
It sure is! Like Phthalocyanine … no wonder we tend to call it simply Phthalo blue!
Here’s another one: “smalt”. A type of blue like cobalt blue.
“Smalt” is another I know from paint pigments — I’ve got a tube of smalt blue from Golden’s range of historical hues
