Part of learning to paint is learning how to talk about your work, being able to express your thoughts about what you've done. It's also part of assessing what you're seeing in other people's art, part of understanding what you do and don't like, part of learning to critique your own paintings and other people's.
It's not about befuddling people with art jargon. Though there is specific terminology, a lot of words you'll know already. It's more a case of finding the "right" word for the aspect of a painting you're wanting to talk about. The aim of my Art Words List is to help you find the "right art words".
It's by no means a list of every single possible word you could use, so if you've suggestions for terms I've not included, do post a comment below or email me.

I am telling you it as it is, Marion, your approach is a wonderful idea, original and very helpful.
Thank you.
Like this. Presumably, the more you know or understand about a subject, the better, obviously, of course! If that information becomes part of you as an Artist, I am speaking artistic maturity here, then painting becomes ‘easier’ (not sure if that’s the right word) both in speaking about it and in the actual ‘preplanning’ and making of a painting.
I think that with time you internalise the vocab as you internalise colour mixing and brushstrokes. But, I admit, sometimes I just want to say this about my paintings: “Just look and love or hate it, don’t ask me about it!!”
