Getting an Even Shine on an Oil Painting

Patchiness can happen when there are different amounts of medium in sections of an oil painting; it's not a problem specific to Liquin. To solve it, wait until the painting is touch dry then apply a thin layer of oil medium across the surface, a technique called oiling out. You want the shine to be even before you varnish the painting.
