Suitable Clothing for Painting?

Wednesday July 8, 2009

Painting

What do you wear when you're painting? Do you have a 'sacrificial' set of clothes or do you paint in whatever you put on first thing that morning?

POLL: What Do You Wear When Painting?
1. An old shirt.
2. An old shirt and pair of trousers.
3. An old dress.
4. Overalls / coveralls / dungarees.
5. An apron.
6. Nothing special, whatever I'm wearing that day.
7. Not a thing, I paint in the nude.
8. Something else. (Post a comment to explain)

Artist/Nudist. I do ware a hat if painting out side, plein air,/Summer but all in all it makes things so much easer just to jump in the shower and clean it all up at once.Acrylic and water color Most of the time and a lot of Pencil Drawings. The bottom line is with Doing it, learning all you can direct from nature, Thom

Good grief!! I’d never get clean again! And where would I hang or stuff my all-important painting rag in? I *have* to have a belt or pocket for it — otherwise I wipe my fingers on my pants.

(4) Newlyweds Guide Francesca says:

I usually finger paint with little ones, so I wear an old shirt and an apron. We make quite a mess but that’s why it’s so much fun. I’m a little shocked that so many people who took the poll paint in the nude. I’ve never tried that. LOL!

I wear a sleeveless denim vest, button up with two large pockets for putting “things” in to keep them handy…plus the everyday jeans and t-shirt.. Linda

I wonder if the “paint in the nude” folks live near the equator? Seems like it might be a chilly enterprise for year-round artists…

I can’t believe people can discuss such a matter seriously. Is there nothing more to say about Art? It reminds me Monty Python’s sketch about ‘Archeology TV show’, when instead of talking of archeology participants just argued who’s taller.
O.k., let’s ask as well which sort of cigarettes to smoke while painting or (for women) – what color lipstick to use, or what a haircut style is most suitable?
Guys, let’s get fun – let’s invent more irrelevant questions about Art.
