How to Paint Nudes

Painting skin tones Someone's been searching for info on how to paint nudes. Really, there is no special secret to it, you approach it as you would painting any other subject. Study the shapes, tones, and colors, then paint what you observe overall. Don't focus on each bit of the body separately ("now I'm painting an arm" or "that's a leg"). Check what you've done and rework it.

I think the hardest part of painting a nude is finding someone who'll pose without their clothes for you (outside of an art school environment that is). That's why so many people paint themselves. If you live somewhere cold, remember to budget for heating so you model doesn't get ill, like Millais' Ophelia.

(1) David Raison says:

When I attended a Life class, there were two things that I discovered:
1) It’s a very asexual atmosphere (which surprised my wife).
2) I found that painting from life was just like painting a still life – except that the subject was breathing and had to move occasionally!
