"Doctors-in-training who took art classes while in medical school appear to have better skills of observation than their colleagues who have never studied art, according to a research from Harvard Medical School. ... The assumption in the past was that either you know how to look or you don't... this is not true. As an artist and psychologist (no longer practicing), these findings are not at all surprising to me. My earlier training in art (BFA) taught me great observation skills which I then used extensively when conducting psych evaluations and in therapy. I currently work with profoundly developmentally disabled adults, and those same observational skills are still golden!
I wish the government would recognize just how important it is for children to learn observation, and how important art is to the development of those skills. Supporting the arts in education is simply good sense…if your goal is to help kids become successful adults.
this report is really correct. i am a university graduat from Asmara(Eritrea) in agricultural engineering. when i was an art student it has helped me a lot in my obsevational skills, especially in designing of diversion canals, check dams, and dams as well. so it is realy good to include art in the curriculem.it will increase their observational skills. Leonardo da Vinci said ‘’the earth is the result of millions of years of physical and chemical transformation'’ this was only through the observations of the rocks.
yes it is correct report. Leonardo Da Vinci said,'’ the present world is the result of millions years of physical and chemical transformations'’ this was only the great observations of leonardo. so it is necessary to include art in the carriculum.
