Mahl Stick A mahl stick is an object that lends itself to riddles or trivia quizzes. "What's long and straight, soft at one end, and used by painters for centuries to keep their hands off their work?"

Seriously, if you're painting detail and want to keep your hand steady by resting it on something (other than the canvas itself), a mahl stick is just the thing. (It's not something to be used against people who make rude comments about a painting!) Find out more...
