The Art Forger's Handbook
Tuesday November 20, 2007
If the news story about the pensioner art fraudsters had you wondering about what it would take to reproduce a painting of an Old Master, then The Art Forger's Handbook is what you need. Who better to write about the techniques of the Old Masters and how to reproduce them than a successful art forger himself? (Though the last chapter is a warning about trying to pass works off as genuine, suggesting you rather go into the "genuine reproduction" market!) The English artist Eric Hebborn had many drawings authenticated by experts as being by artists such as Breughel and Corot when they were in fact modern versions! Reading his handbook is like taking a masterclass in the art of creating Old Masters, covering everything from obtaining old materials to what modern-day supplies can be used. It'll be very useful if you're wanting to work in an Old Masters style, recreating the feel from the period in your own paintings.Read my review...
