Van Gogh Painting with Words
Thursday August 23, 2007
Here's something for all Vincent van Gogh fans: a new exhibition and book on his correspondence with the painter Émile Bernard. The exhibition, "Painted with Words", will be at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York (from 28 September to 6 January). It's a very focused exhibition, based on only 20 letters and 22 paintings/drawings Van Gogh and Bernard either discussed or exchanged, but promises to provide an interesting look into Van Gogh's creative processes. To find out more about the exhibition, read the press release and take a look at photos of what will be exhibited.
An advance writeup in the NY Sun quotes a curator at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Leo Jansen, as saying: "These letters are a kind of overview of everything he thought, about life, about art, about religion". For all those Van Gogh enthusiasts who can't get to New York, the good news is that an exhibition catalog is due to be published by Rizzoli in mid September.
