Please Use Your Cell Phone in the Museum

I confess, I hate the audio commentaries that you can hire (usually for quite a fee) at art gallery and museum special exhibitions. You're generally stuck looking at the paintings in the order presented by the narrator and it's hard to skip along when you've had enough and want to move onto the next thing or to go back to something later. So I was most intrigued the article "Enriching Art via Cell Phone" in the Baltimore Sun about using your own cell phone to access a commentary and to easily listen to the piece on a specific artwork.
The article quotes Dave Asheim, president of Guide By Cell as saying "It's becoming the primary way museums will deliver interpretation ... That's because 90 percent of visitors already have a phone, already know how to use it, and they're comfortable with it." And the more fastidious among us don't have to worry about catching bugs off the last person to use the device! Read full article...
