Art Exhibition Rage
Tuesday January 9, 2007
I had to smile when reading Martin Kemp's blog in the Guardian on art exhibition rage, because I'm one of those people who'll start at the "wrong" end of an exhibition. To me it's sensible as there are generally fewer people there, and just because paintings are arranged in a certain way in an exhibition doesn't mean I have to look at them in that order. Kemp says: "Some exhibitions are more linear than others, but even chronologically disposed, monographic shows can productively be taken in other orders. I like to walk quickly through all the rooms in a show, gaining a sense of what is there, how it's laid out and what it will take to 'do' the show adequately for my purposes ... Why are we so set on taking shows in the order of the exhibit numbers?" Read more about art exhibition rage...
