Dealing with a broken paint tube cap What do you do if the cap from a paint tube breaks or cracks. This is the problem facing Maryanne, who says: "I have found that many times after first opening a tube of oil paint, the cap of the tube splits apart. When I buy new tubes of paint I try not to pinch the tube caps too hard when I unscrew or tighten them. So far they have not broken.

Next time you finish a tube of paint, you could clean the cap and then store it for possible use as a replacement in the future.
