New (Free!) Art Newspaper: South African Art Times
Thursday February 16, 2006
South Africans are notoriously starved for information about what's going on in the arts scene in their own country. Exhibition listings are found in daily newspapers, but just try to find a list of art workshops on offer, for example. I've had emails saying: "Surely there must be something on, but where?"
So I was delighted to find a copy of the new The South African Art Times when I was out buying some canvas yesterday. It's got arts-related news (both local and international), interviews, a column on practical advice, details of new galleries, a gallery listings (with address, website, opening hours, what's on), local art opportunities, and classifieds (and, look, there are three art workshops!). Subscription is free (it doesn't say so, but I presume only in South Africa).
