Arguments Over "Michelangelo's Mountain"

Did you know marble is still being taken from Monte Altissimo, in Tuscany, Italy, which is where Michelangelo got his? But now, apparently the company doing so wants to "shave some 300 feet off its southern ridge to exploit a large part of the mountain's shrinking lode of high-quality white marble" but doing so will "ruin a spectacular vista and compromise a valuable nature preserve."
