Question: Portraiture vs a Figure

On the Painting Forum, Starrpoint asked the question: "Is there a difference between portraiture and having a human subject in a painting?" Karen said she thought "a portrait would perhaps be more like a 'human still life' as opposed to action-oriented depictions." What do you think? Add your opinion here....
