Public Art Competition: Cape Town
Tuesday May 3, 2005
Here's an opportunity that doesn't happen very often: the City of Cape Town (South Africa) is running a competition for the design of "two memorial sculptures, or artwork in an appropriate alternative medium, to be placed in two landscaped public spaces in Athlone". One will honour those killed in the Trojan Horse incident during anti-apartheid protests in 1985; the other will honour activists Robert Waterwitch and Coline Williams killed by a limpet mine explosion during the 1989 anti-voter registration campaign. The deadline for proposals is 3 June 2005; if you win you'll have 14 weeks to complete the work as the winning commissions will be unveiled on Heritage Day, 24 September. For details, contact the Director of Planning of Cape Town phone (+27)-(0)21-400-2320, email Dulcie.Haydricks@capetown.gov.za.
